What is a day in the life of an Elementary School Teacher like? A few months ago I made a career change and decided to become a teacher. I currently teach an after school program. The thing is, this position isn't really letting me know what it's like to be an elementary school teacher in the school board. I have many questions: 1. Besides teaching your specific grade, are you also required to do extracurricular activities with children after school? Such as drama club, etc.? 2. Are you required to do fundraising for your school? 3. Are you required to put on events like school plays, etc.? 4. Must part of your day be in the school library or cafeteria for a school period? 5. Are there enough free periods to grade papers and lesson plan while students are at other class periods like gym, art, computers, etc.? What I really want to know is, besides your actual classes, what else happens or is expected of you as a teacher throughout the day or year? Answers from teachers in the school board and who teach elementary will be most helpful.
Reasons why a public school teacher has her own child in private school or homeschools them? Like the question asks? I found out the other day that my son's pre-school teacher has her own child in private school...not the public school system. I've also heard of several teachers that homeschool their own children. Outside of a disability reason, I'm having trouble imagining a teacher in the public system not having their own child in school. Some schools even support disabilities if not all of them. My wife and I have been thinking of homeschooling for various reasons. Knowing that my son's teacher doesn't have her own child in public school is solidifying my position. Has the system reached that level of "bad" that even the teachers don't want their children in public school? This is a decision my wife and I are working on BEFORE it goes too far. We hope to decide by the time he gets to kindergarten. mike1942f...Wow! Guess the word of the day is "bitter"?

I want to look professional and polished without being overdressed, and absolutely NOT sexy in any way. I'm not unattractive, but school is not the place to flaunt anything. Older teachers get away with dressing pretty sloppy, but I'm afraid of blending in with students if I dress down too much. What on Earth am I supposed to wear? I should have mentioned that nobody at this school wears suits. Not even administrators!

How do I deal with a school teacher who is picking on my child? My 12 (nearly 13) yr old son is in 1st year in an Irish secondary school and is having a problem with one of his male teachers. This man has a reputation for not being very pleasant and unfortunately seems to have taken a dislike to my son. I KNOW my son is telling me the truth when he tells me what has gone in during his class. ie he is his art teacher and when he looks at work he is not happy with he tells the kids "thats rubbish" He doles out excessive punishments ie 4 A4 page essays for tapping fingers in class. Although the principal knows he is a bully, he seems to take the teachers side so my son still has to endure being picked on, being insulted and being punished unfairly. He broke his writing hand a few weeks ago and was told "GET OUT OF MY CLASS, YOU'RE NO GOOD TO ME LIKE THAT" This is just a few examples. He gets on well with all of his other teachers.....Any words of wisdom? Thanks. I have told the principal on a couple of occasions to no avail.

What if a universtiy student begins to date a high school Teacher, is that legal? Seriously. People say it's wrong for teachers to have a relationship with students. What if the student doesn't belong to the teachers school or the student belongs to a university. The teacher holds no power over the student. So does that still make it illegal. If you answer please use reason and try to use proof if you can find it. This is a totally random thought and I wish to know the legal answer for it
